Plaster Bust of Venus de’ Medici

Romanian Art

Measurements: 17 X 35H cm
Code: IG-1306

The original work is located in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It was discovered in the Baths of Trajan and became the property of Ferdinando de' Medici, from whom the statue takes its name.

Napoleon, following his policy of spoliation, briefly took it to France along with many other works. Canova, to compensate for the Italian loss of this masterpiece, sculpted the Italian Venus.
